Finally gave that new ceramic foam filter a real shot on the bronze pours
I've been at this for twenty years and always thought those fancy filters were a waste of time, just something to sell you. The old guy who trained me never used them, so I didn't either. But we kept getting these tiny inclusions in a repeat job for some marine fittings, and the client was getting upset. My foreman basically made me try one last week on a pour of about 80 pounds of silicon bronze. I was ready to say 'I told you so,' but the cut-off from that batch? Clean as I've ever seen. No pin holes, no junk trapped in the corners. It just worked. I guess sometimes the new stuff is worth the hassle. Has anyone else had a tool or method they fought against that actually fixed a problem?

Honestly, that's a great result. Did you notice any difference in the pour temperature or flow when you used it, or did it just filter without changing the process?

Clean as I've ever seen" is the best feeling, right? It's wild when the fix you fought against is the one that finally works.
