A splash incident pushed me to start daily PPE checks

I used to skip checking my personal protective gear before firing up the furnace, thinking it was still good from yesterday. Then one morning, my face shield had a crack I missed, and a metal splash almost hit my face. So now, I make it a point to look over everything from gloves to boots first thing. It adds about five minutes to my start, but I feel much safer and haven't had any close calls since. I mean, it sounds simple, but I was careless about it for years. Do other folks have small habits like this that really helped? Or maybe it's just me being extra careful now. I'd like to know what you all do to stay safe without wasting time.

Found a cracked welding helmet yesterday during my own gear check.

That metal splash almost hitting you sounds like a solid wake-up call. Spending five minutes is way better than dealing with the mess afterward.
