Chased a persimmon tree downtown, got a parking ticket instead

I saw a post about a persimmon tree near 5th and Main, so I drove over after work last Tuesday. Spent 15 minutes circling for a spot, finally parked at a meter, and paid $2.50 for 30 minutes. Tree was stripped bare, someone must have gotten there earlier that day. Walked back to find my car had a $35 ticket because the meter only takes coins, not the app I used. Has anyone else wasted cash on a tipped-off location that turned out empty? Maybe I should just stick to my usual community garden spots.
