Just realized I was scrubbing my cast iron skillet wrong for 5 years
Used to scrub my Lodge skillet with soap and a sponge like it was a regular pan until my buddy in Austin told me to just boil water in it and scrape with a metal spatula, has anyone else had to unlearn basic cleaning habits like this?

Oh man, that boiling water trick was a game changer for me too. I did the same thing with soap and a rough sponge for years until a friend caught me and basically yelled at me. It felt like I had to completely rethink everything I thought I knew about cooking. Now I just let water simmer and scrape with a flat wooden spatula, and my pan looks way better than it ever did. What finally got you to try the metal spatula method?
