We're creating way too much trash with every flooring job and nobody cares...

I see bags of vinyl scraps piling up after every install, and it's just wrong. That material won't decompose for centuries, but we act like it's not our problem. When will this trade start taking waste seriously and look for better options?

Last year, our county landfill reported that 15% of construction waste came from flooring materials. Most installers don't even know where that trash ends up or what it costs to handle. If we had to pay real disposal fees upfront, not just dump it in a bin, we'd find ways to cut waste fast. Why isn't there a standard system for recycling vinyl scraps like there is for cardboard? We could pressure manufacturers to take back off-cuts, but no one talks about that. What would it take to get big companies on board with a take-back program?

Try using digital layout tools to minimize vinyl waste before it even becomes scrap. That's a direct step installers can take now, without relying on manufacturer programs.
