That old Nintendo I found at a garage sale finally works again
I picked up a beat up NES from a garage sale for $10 last month and it wouldn't read any games at all. After watching a few videos I tried the boiling water trick on the 72 pin connector and it actually worked perfectly. Has anyone else had luck with that method or is there a better way to keep it working long term?

That boiling water trick is just one of those things that sounds crazy until it works. It's like when people say you should fix a scratched DVD with toothpaste and it actually buffs it out. The whole world runs on janky fixes that shouldn't work but end up being the standard solution. The 72 pin connector is such a cheap design that a little hot water resets the pins better than any alcohol or contact cleaner. Just be careful not to warp the plastic, but if you already got it working I wouldn't mess with it again. Eventually the pins will weaken for good, but you got more life out of it than the landfill. That's the real win.
