Rant: Stop calling a recapped CRT "fully restored" if you didn't touch the flyback

I mean I get it, replacing 20 caps is tedious work but that flyback transformer is usually the real ticking clock on these old TVs. Had a guy sell me a "mint condition" 1986 Trinitron last month that started arcing after three days because he left the original flyback in there.

Yeah but how are you supposed to test a flyback without putting hours on it? Or are you just saying anyone selling a vintage CRT should replace it blind before they flip it?

Huh, that's a solid question though... how would you even put a flyback through its paces without just running the set for ages? I mean, maybe you could check for arcing with a scope or listen for that high-pitched whine under load, but that still doesn't tell you if it's gonna crap out in a week. So are you saying you just trust your gut on old parts like that, or do you actually test them somehow before selling?
