I still remember the old guy who fixed my NES for free back in 2012
Honestly, I was about to toss my busted NES in the trash when this retired electrician named Frank stopped me outside a thrift store in Tucson. He didn't say much, just grabbed it, opened it up, and said 'pin connector is shot, kid.' He showed me how to boil the old one to get it working again right there on his tailgate. Has anyone else had a random stranger teach them a fix like that?

oh man that Frank sounds like a legend. reminds me of this old timer I met at a yard sale who fixed my bike chain with a paperclip and a piece of gum. he just laughed and said "it'll hold for a few blocks" and it did for like two years. Frank boiling a pin connector is next level though. I bet he had a whole tool kit in that truck bed just waiting for a project.

Those old timers have a whole different way of looking at things. My grandpa used to say "if it works, it's not stupid" and he once patched a radiator hose with a tube sock and duct tape that got us home across three states.
