Caught my bathroom sink trap leaking at 2am... that was fun

Woke up to dripping sounds last Tuesday around 2am. The P-trap under my sink had a hairline crack right where the nut meets the pipe, must have been from over tightening it when I installed it 6 months ago. I had to dig out a bucket and wrap it in duct tape just to get through the night. Anybody else had a pvc trap just give up on them like that?

Tbh how often do people even check those plastic fittings for cracks before they fail?

loganm52 nailed it with "how often do people even check," because the answer is basically never. I'm guilty of it myself - I'll look at a fitting and think "yeah that looks fine" while secretly praying it doesn't split open at 60 psi. The joke's on me though, because I once had a plastic tee crack right in the middle of a backyard project and I stood there like an idiot watching water shoot into the air. I swear I checked that thing three times before turning the pump on, but nope, it still failed. So yeah, I'm the guy who doesn't check until it's too late, and then I blame the plastic.
