That moment I realized my shed foundation was waaaay off after 3 years of fighting a crooked door
Last spring I was out in the rain trying to shove my shed door shut AGAIN and it hit me - the whole building is leaning maybe 2 inches to the left. I always blamed the cheap door hinges or the wood swelling. Turns out I never checked if my gravel base was level before I poured the concrete blocks. My buddy came over and put a 4 foot level on the floor and just shook his head. Has anyone else spent YEARS fighting a symptom instead of the real problem?

My neighbor had the same thing with his deck. He was replacing rotten boards every year and finally figured out the whole deck was sloping toward the house by like 3 inches. Water was pooling against the ledger board and rotting everything out from behind. He jacked it up last summer and put in proper footings, no more rot. Sometimes you just gotta step back and look at the big picture instead of patching the same spot over and over.

A 4 foot level would show the floor is out, not the foundation.

Show the floor is out, not the foundation" - that's true if you trust the slab is level, but I've seen basements where the whole foundation settled unevenly and the floor followed it down. A 4 foot level can't tell the difference between a bad floor and a bad foundation.
