That cheap faucet washer kit I was too good for...

I spent 3 hours wrestling with a leaky kitchen faucet at my buddy's place in Portland before I caved and grabbed a $4 multi-size rubber washer kit from the corner store, and somehow the cheap fix worked perfectly on the first try, has anyone else had a basic part save you from buying a whole new faucet?

Cheap parts are the only thing I trust more than my own bad decisions.

@david123 i read something the other day about how those cheap washer kits are actually made with a more flexible rubber than the name brand stuff, which supposedly seals better over time. i had a similar thing happen with a tub spout on a rental property i helped fix last summer. the old gasket was shot and a 50 cent o-ring from the same kind of kit solved it in two minutes after i wasted an hour with a pipe wrench trying to loosen the whole spout. it's funny how the simplest stuff always outsmarts you when you think you're too good for it.
