Talked to a plumber named Joe who said most leaky faucets just need a 50 cent washer not a whole new fixture
He literally fixed my kitchen faucet in 10 minutes with a part from his truck and I felt stupid for almost buying a $150 replacement at Home Depot.

...and the thing is, my dad was a plumber too and he used to say the same thing about cars. He'd fix our old station wagon with a paperclip and some duct tape and I'd be like why didn't you just take it to a shop. It's amazing how much we throw money at stuff before even trying the cheap fix first, the parts are usually sitting right there waiting.

Oh man that's so familiar! I had a garbage disposal that just stopped working and I almost dropped $200 on a new one, but my uncle was like "did you even check the reset button?" and sure enough that's all it was. Now I always try the simple stuff first before calling anyone, saved me a ton of headache and cash.
