Just realized my "30 minute" faucet fix took me 4 hours

I thought I was being smart replacing a cartridge in my bathroom faucet. Watched a 5 minute YouTube video, felt confident. Then the stupid retaining clip would not budge. Spent an hour wrestling with it, snapped a pair of needle nose pliers, and ended up having to take the whole faucet apart just to get at it from underneath. Anybody else have a simple job turn into an all day thing?

Oh man, I gotta say I see this a little different. In my experience, that 30 minute YouTube estimate is usually not realistic at all. Those videos skip all the stripped screws and stuck parts. Your mileage may vary but I've learned to double whatever the video says and plan for the worst. That retaining clip thing is a classic pain point that nobody warns you about. I'd rather spend 4 hours and get it done right than rush and have to do it all over again next month. Take this with a grain of salt but sometimes the struggle is just part of the job.

The trick that saved me was spraying PB Blaster on the clip and letting it sit for 10 minutes before trying again. That stuff loosens anything.
