Why I finally gave up on my expensive leather journal and switched to a $3 composition notebook

Honestly, I bought this $45 leather journal from a shop in Austin because I thought it would make me write better. After 6 months, I had only used 3 pages because I was too afraid to mess it up. Then last week I grabbed a beat-up composition notebook from the grocery store and wrote 10 pages that first night without even thinking. The pressure of the fancy thing was actually blocking me from writing anything real. Has anyone else found that switching to cheap supplies actually helped your first drafts flow better?
