Found out my white picket fence is actually lowering my home value

I was browsing Zillow last night and saw a study from the National Association of Realtors that said certain fence styles can drop curb appeal by up to 15% in some neighborhoods. Turns out my classic white fence is considered dated in my area while the neighbors with simple black metal ones are getting better offers. Did anyone else know fence style matters that much for resale value?

Oh man, this is such a wild rabbit hole to fall into. I think people sleep on the fact that fence style sends a signal about the whole neighborhood's vibe, not just your house. A white picket fence screams "suburban uniformity" or even "1950s nostalgia," which might clash with a modern or mid-century area (where that black metal just blends in). It's almost like your fence is a fashion statement nobody asked for, and it ages your property in a weird way. Location matters more than the fence itself, if that makes sense.

Spent all weekend painting mine white thinking I was fixing the problem.
