Why I stopped hating WD-40 after 10 years of ignoring it

I always thought WD-40 was a joke. People spray it on everything and act like it fixes the world. But last month I had a sliding closet door that made this awful metal screech every morning. My neighbor said just spray it on the track, so I finally caved. Took me 5 seconds and the noise vanished completely. Now I wonder what else I've been stubborn about for no reason. Anyone else have a tool they refused to use for years then finally caved on?

My dad always swore by the stuff but I thought it was just a gimmick for years. Then my bike chain started rusting and he handed me the can, fixed it instantly. Now I keep a can in the kitchen drawer for squeaky hinges and sticky zippers.

Wait you keep it in the kitchen drawer? With like the forks and spoons? That makes me feel kind of weird honestly. I mean I get it's useful but I don't think I want my WD-40 anywhere near where I prepare food. Maybe it's just me being paranoid but that smell alone. Also a bike chain is exactly what made me finally give in too. That screeching sound from my old bike was driving me crazy and a neighbor just handed me a can and poof gone in seconds. Still not sure I'd put it next to my cereal bowls though.
