Wasted $200 on a rubber roof patch kit that failed after 2 months on my shed

The tube said it bonds to wet surfaces but it peeled right off during the next rain, so is the whole rubber roof repair thing a scam or did I just buy the wrong brand?

Hey, did you prep the surface at all before you put it on? I've had good luck with the Henry brand stuff, but you gotta clean the area real good and let it dry completely even if the tube says otherwise. Scrape off any loose bits and hit it with a wire brush first, then apply it thick - like a quarter inch thick. That $200 kit might have been overkill for a shed roof too, a cheaper roll of rubber membrane and some adhesive would've probably been simpler and tougher.

It's crazy how much that prep work matters for everything, not just roofing. I tried fixing a crack in my driveway last summer and skipped the wire brush step, just cleaned it with a hose and let it dry. That patch was peeling up within a month. It's like painting a wall without sanding it first, the new stuff just never bonds right. People always want to skip to the actual fix because it feels productive, but the boring cleaning part is what makes it last. Same with changing your oil, gotta let it drain completely before you put the new stuff in.
