That $5 goodwill lamp forced me to learn basic wiring
Picked up a cheap brass lamp at Goodwill in Austin last month for $5. It looked perfect for my desk but the switch was dead and the cord was frayed. Instead of trashing it I watched a 10 minute YouTube video and spent $8 on a new cord and switch at the hardware store. Took me about 45 minutes to figure out the wiring with some shaky hands but now it works better than new. I could have bought a new lamp for $20 but this one feels way more special now. Has anyone else had a simple electronics fix that felt like a huge win?

Did you save the old switch and cord or pitch em right away?

That little bit of shaky hand wiring is honestly a great life skill to have. Now you can look at any busted lamp or small appliance and think "yeah, I can probably fix that" instead of just tossing it.
