Grandpa's gear puller trick saved my lawn mower blade
My push mower blade was stuck on solid after 15 years of rust, and I was about to toss the whole thing. I remembered Grandpa used to heat the nut with a propane torch first, then tap it with a hammer before using the wrench. Anyone else have an old timer method that actually worked better than the modern stuff?

Huh, that brings back memories. My grandpa used to soak rusty bolts in Coke overnight instead of buying WD-40. He swore the acid in it broke down the rust better than any spray could. Tried it on a seized up bicycle chain once and it actually worked, but the whole garage smelled like a soda factory for a week.

Oh wow, that's a good one... did the Coke actually eat through the rust faster than you expected, or did it just soften it up so you could break it loose with a wrench? I've heard of people using vinegar for rust too, but soda always seemed like it'd leave such a sticky mess to clean up after... how long did you have to scrub that bike chain before it was ready to use again?
