Vent: I'm leaning toward a house with no yard and my family thinks I'm wrong

I know most first time buyers want a big yard for kids or pets, but I really don't. I found a great condo in the city center with just a small balcony. It fits my budget and cuts down on maintenance, which I hate. My parents keep saying I'll regret not having outdoor space for barbecues or gardening. Honestly, I work long hours and would rather have a short commute than a lawn to mow. I've rented places with yards before and never used them much. The idea of less upkeep really appeals to me as a new homeowner. Am I making a mistake by ignoring the usual advice? Has anyone else chosen a place with minimal outdoor area and been happy with it?

You mentioned never using yards much when renting. I bought a condo with just a small deck. No mowing or watering, saved me hours every week. That extra time is worth more than grass.

Why do people fight so hard for grass they'll never actually walk on?

People get weird about lawns. It's just grass, not a family heirloom.
