Showerthought: Everyone overlooks the sewer scope inspection until it's too late

Bought a place in Des Moines a few years back and skipped it, then paid $8,000 to replace a collapsed pipe 6 months later, so has anyone else had that gut feeling you should have just spent the extra $150 upfront?

Thats a rough one, but I actually push back on this a little bit. A sewer scope is just a snapshot in time, you could get a clean bill of health and have a tree root punch through the pipe next week. $150 isnt nothing either when you're already bleeding cash on a down payment and closing costs. So I get why people skip it, especially on a newer build or if the house has records of a recent replacement. Sometimes you just gotta roll the dice and hope the pipes hold up, that 8 grand was still a raw deal though.

Rolling the dice on a sewer line is basically gambling with your toilet, hope you didn't lose that one. At least 8 grand gets you a working pipe, which is more than I can say for most Vegas bets.
