My dad said something about his first mortgage payment in 1983 that stopped me cold
He told me he paid $487 a month for a 3 bedroom house and I sat there trying to figure out how I can go back in time after my lender quoted me $2,150 for a fixer upper townhouse down the street has anyone else had a relative drop a number that made you question your whole life choices?

Ugh right?! My grandma told me she bought her first house for like $35k total and I almost choked on my boba. It really makes you wonder how we got so sideways as a society when basic stuff like housing just keeps getting more and more out of reach for regular people. Like that number from your dad isn't just a fun fact, it's a straight up symbol of how broken the whole system is now compared to back then. Everything from wages to interest rates to just the cost of existing feels totally disconnected from what it used to be.

Notice it's not just housing either. Groceries, cars, even a damn Mcdonald's meal all follow the same pattern now. Everything's been creeping up for years while paychecks barely budge. People act like it's just inflation but it's deeper than that. The whole system's set up to squeeze regular folks while the people at the top keep raking it in. We've just accepted it as normal when it really shouldn't be.
