I finally had an inspection go perfectly and I don't trust it

Last Tuesday I had my first home inspection on a little 1940s bungalow I've got under contract over in Oakwood. The inspector showed up early, which never happens, and spent a solid four hours crawling under the house and up on the roof. He didn't find a single major issue, just some minor stuff like a loose outlet and a cracked window seal. The furnace is original from 1987 but he said it's been maintained well and could last another 5 years easy. The roof was replaced 3 years ago and the flashing around the chimney looked solid, which is something I always check myself being in the business. The whole thing felt too easy, like the house is hiding something big. Has anyone else had a perfect inspection and then regretted not digging harder?

That part about the original 1987 furnace being "maintained well" is the thing that would bug me too. Did the inspector actually pull the service records or just look at it and say it looks clean?

That 1987 furnace thing gets me too... my last place had a 1992 model the inspector said was "in great shape" but when I moved in I found out the heat exchanger had a crack you could barely see. No way did that guy pull records, probably just saw the filters were new and the burner flames were blue and called it good. I'd be asking the seller for all the service receipts going back at least 5 years, and even then I'd want a second opinion from a HVAC guy who specializes in old units. Those 80s furnaces were tanks but once they start going it's usually a full replacement, not a repair job.
