Tried fermentation weights vs plastic bag method for kraut and the winner was obvious
I spent 6 months using those expensive glass weights and kept getting mold on top anyway. Switched to the ziploc bag filled with brine trick my grandma taught me and haven't seen a speck of mold since. The bag just seals everything off way better than any weight ever could. Anyone else ditch the fancy tools for the old school methods?

Man it's funny how often the simplest stuff just works better than all the fancy gear. Seems like every hobby has that one expensive gadget that everyone swears by but the old timers just roll their eyes at. I've noticed it with cooking gear too, sometimes a rusty cast iron pan beats a nonstick that costs fifty bucks.

And the bag just conforms to whatever shape your container is, so there's no gaps for air to sneak in around the edges like with those stiff weights. My buddy spent forty bucks on a ceramic fermentation set and still ended up tossing a batch because the weight didn't sit right in his wide mouth jar. It's like grandma always said, the cheap trick wins because it's been tested in real kitchens for decades, not just in some startup's marketing photos.
