Shoutout to that week my sauerkraut turned into a science experiment gone wrong

I had a batch of sauerkraut going for 10 days and it looked fine, but then I noticed this weird fuzzy growth on top. Turns out I didn't push the cabbage down enough and it got exposed to air. I lost a whole 5-pound head of cabbage and it smelled like old gym socks. My kitchen counter had this fuzzy ring under the jar too, which was gross to clean up. Anyone else ever lose a batch to something dumb like mold?

That "fuzzy ring under the jar" thing tells me you probably had some liquid spill over too, which is basically a mold farm waiting to happen. Next time try putting the jar on a towel or a small tray so any leak gets caught before it sits there for days. The gym sock smell is brutal though, I still catch whiffs of mine in my dreams sometimes.
