PSA: Wasted $45 on a fancy fermentation crock that cracked in 3 weeks

I bought a glazed stoneware crock from a small shop online thinking it'd be perfect for big batches of sauerkraut. After three weeks and two batches the bottom cracked right through, leaking brine all over my counter. Tried reaching out to the seller but they said it was a use issue and wouldn't help. Lost $45 plus the cabbage and salt I had in there. Has anyone else had bad luck with those cheap glazed crocks? I'm thinking of just sticking to my mason jars now.

Had a buddy who tried to cure a cracked crock with aquarium sealant once. Ended up tasting like rubber and sadness.

Yeah the "use issue" excuse is such garbage lol. I had a similar thing happen with a stoneware pitcher that just split one day while I was washing it. Seller said it must've been thermal shock but I only used cold water. Those cheap glazed pieces are like a total gamble with the clay body and glaze fit. Mason jars are definitely way more reliable for kraut, plus you can actually see what's happening inside without opening it.
