Just realized my dad thinks kombucha is a type of fish

He saw my SCOBY hotel and asked if I was curing salmon, and honestly, it made me rethink how I explain this stuff to people. Anyone else have a totally wild family guess about your ferments?

That "curing salmon" guess is fantastic. I started calling my SCOBY a "tea mushroom" and showing people a finished bottle, which seems to click better than the science talk.

Tea mushroom" is a good trick but honestly, is any of this that deep? It's just fermented tea. We don't give fancy names to the yeast in our bread dough. Sometimes I feel like we over explain simple stuff to make it sound more special than it is. Showing the bottle makes sense, it's just a drink.
