Tried that aluminum fence panel after years of wood and I'm shocked at the difference
Always thought metal fences looked cheap until a job in Birmingham last month where the homeowner insisted on aluminum. The whole install took me half the time and the cut ends didn't splinter like treated pine does. Anybody else switch materials and regret not doing it sooner?

My first aluminum fence install took me 4 hours instead of the usual 8, so I felt like I was cheating. Then the homeowner's dog ran full speed into a gate panel and the thing barely flexed, whereas my wood gates usually need a new hinge after that. Yeah, I'm not going back to splinters and rot either, your mileage may vary but I'm sold.

Is it really that serious though? I mean wood has worked fine for people for hundreds of years... seems like we're acting like aluminum is some kind of miracle material for a fence. The dog thing is kinda funny but how often does a dog actually run full speed into a gate panel? I've had wood fences my whole life and never had a hinge problem from a dog hitting it. And I bet that aluminum is way louder when the wind blows or when it rains compared to wood. I guess I just don't get the hype over something that's basically just painted metal...
