Switched from wooden posts to steel posts on a job in Eugene and won't go back
I've been putting up wooden fence posts for 8 years but tried steel posts on a 150-foot run last month because the ground was just too rocky. The steel posts went in 3 times faster and I didn't have to haul a bag of concrete for each one. Has anyone else made that swap and noticed the posts holding up better after a wet winter?

Did you do anything special to brace the steel posts in that rocky ground?

Yeah, "anything special" is right. I ended up drilling pilot holes with a hammer drill first, way easier than trying to bang the posts in directly. Then I poured dry concrete mix in the holes and let the rain set it. Worked good for me, the posts aren't going anywhere with that rocky base.
