Realized I was setting posts wrong for a decade

Was fixing a leaning gate in Tacoma last fall. Customer pointed out all my posts leaned the same way, into the slope. He said his old farm fence posts always leaned out, to shed water. Dug one up, saw the rot pattern. Changed my concrete base shape that day. Anyone else learn a basic thing way too late?

Into the slope actually makes more sense.

But hold on, you're missing the whole point of the original phrase. "Off the slope" is about the energy and release, the moment you push away from the hill. Saying "into the slope" flips the meaning to something totally inward and closed off. It loses that feeling of launching into your next move. The classic version has stuck around for a reason, it just captures the action better. Changing it to be more literal doesn't actually improve anything.
