Just realized I wasted a whole day on a cedar fence because I didn't listen to my own rule about post holes.
Had a job in Oak Park with heavy clay, and the client wanted the posts set in concrete versus using foam. I went with the foam to save time, but after a hard rain, three posts were leaning. Ended up having to pull them and pour concrete anyway, which took me an extra eight hours. Anyone else get burned by trying to shortcut in bad soil?

Man, that's the worst feeling. I did the exact same thing on a job last spring with that dense, wet clay. Tried to save half a day with foam, told myself it would be fine. Next week, a whole section looked like a drunk picket line. The time I "saved" turned into a full day of rework, just like you. Clay just laughs at foam. Never again.

I've actually had foam hold up fine in clay if you prep the ground right first.
