Walking through the fabric district last week brought back memories
Went down to the fabric district in Los Angeles last Tuesday and it felt completely different than ten years ago. Half the little fabric shops I used to visit are gone, replaced by those giant wholesale places with everything in plastic wrap. I remember when you could dig through bins of vintage buttons and zippers for hours. Now it's mostly bulk orders and pre-made pattern kits. Found one old shop still open run by a woman who remembered my mom from the 90s. She said business dropped 60 percent since 2015 because everyone buys online. Anyone else feel like the hands-on part of fashion design is fading?

Man, that hits hard. I remember going to that district with my aunt in the early 2000s and digging through bins of trim and lace felt like a treasure hunt. Now it's all just rows of same-y fabric rolls behind a counter. The woman who remembered your mom, that's the heart of what's dying. Most people just want to buy a finished thing online, not spend an afternoon making something from scratch.
