Vent: That $200 "premium" fabric I bought frayed apart in 3 washes

I spent like $200 on this Italian wool blend from a small online shop for a custom coat I was designing. After three cold washes it started fraying at the seams and pilling like crazy. Has anyone else had luck with cheaper fabrics that hold up better for structured garments?

Gotta jump in here and say melton wool is actually great for structured coats, but it's not cheap either. You can find it for less than $200 if you shop around on fabric discount sites or clearance bins. The real trick with Italian wool is that a lot of that stuff is meant for high-end tailoring where you're not washing it at all, you're dry cleaning it or spot cleaning. Boiled wool is a solid pick too but it's thicker and more casual, so it might not give you that sharp structured look if that's what you're going for.

Look into boiled wool or melton wool instead. Those handle abuse way better and don't cost half that.
