Tried hand-painting a denim jacket and it bled way worse than I expected

I spent 3 hours painting a floral design on a light wash jacket from Goodwill in Portland. Used fabric paint that claimed it was set after 72 hours, but when I washed it cold, the blue from the denim bled right into my white petals. Now I know you have to heat set the denim first or use a barrier layer. Anyone else have a favorite way to keep fabric paint from getting muddy on wash day?

72 hours of waiting and still getting dye bleed would drive me crazy honestly. @andrew_sanchez94 says nobody would notice but I bet the white petals look like cheap grey now and that's a bummer for the time you put in. Tbh the whole "watercolor vibe" thing only works if it actually looks intentional, not like a wash mishap. Ngl I think it matters more when you put real effort into something and the materials fight you the whole way. Sorry but not all disappointed crafters need to just call it happy accidents and move on.

Man why is everyone acting like this is a tragedy? Its a Goodwill jacket that cost you maybe 10 bucks. Just call the flowers a watercolor vibe and move on. I bet if you wore it out nobody would even notice the bleeding unless you told them. Half the time people overthink this stuff and the jacket ends up looking fine anyway. Way bigger problems in the world than some denim dye messing up a hobby project.
