Serious question, I had to pick between a hidden zipper or a button placket for a linen shirt design.

I was working on a summer shirt pattern and spent a whole day making two samples, one with a side seam zipper and one with a classic button front. I went with the buttons because I thought it looked cleaner, but now I'm worried the fabric will pull and look messy when tucked in. Has anyone else run into this with linen and found a fix?

Try a narrow double fold on the button placket instead of a single fold. Linen needs that extra layer to stop the pulling. I also switched to smaller, flatter buttons that don't add as much bulk under the fabric. It made a huge difference for keeping the shirt smooth when it's tucked in.

Did you try using a heavier interfacing on the placket?
