Realized my sewing patterns were always off by 2 inches because I never measured my own hip curve
I spent 6 months making dresses that pulled weirdly across the side, and I finally figured out my pattern drafting book assumes every woman's hip is a straight line from waist to thigh. Tried tracing my own hip curve onto a new pattern using a flexible ruler and a mirror, and the fit improved instantly. Has anyone else found that standard sewing patterns just don't match real body shapes?

Oh man, that flexible ruler trick is a game changer, I tried it once after watching a cosplay tutorial and it saved my butt on a tricky bodice. So did you trace both hips separately or just average them out, cause my left side is a whole different shape than my right and I'm always wrestling with that.

Nah I just trace one side and hope the other side doesn't notice.
