My aunt the seamstress told me to stop using cheap thread and I ignored her for years
She sews since the 70s and kept saying Gutermann or Mettler only for garment making. I figured she was just being picky and bought the $1 spools at the craft store. After my third project fell apart at the seams literally within a month I finally switched to a higher quality brand. The difference in how the stitches hold is night and day. I spent $45 on a bunch of Gutermann cones last week and it made my last dress actually look professional. Has anyone else had a cheap thread disaster that made you change your whole approach?

My mom ruined a vintage tablecloth she was repairing with cheap polyester thread and it literally melted under the iron on a medium heat setting. That was the moment I realized saving a few bucks on thread can cost you way more in ruined fabric and wasted time. The cheap stuff is basically a gamble where you always lose eventually.

Got a buddy who tried fixing his favorite jacket with cheap thread. Thing fell apart at the seam after two wears. He was furious, kept saying it wasn't worth the three bucks he saved. Now he buys the good stuff without even looking at the price tag.
