Hot take: I used to hate asymmetrical hemlines until I saw someone pull it off perfectly

I was at a thrift store last Saturday in Portland digging through a rack of old prom dresses when I overheard this woman talking to her friend about a skirt she was holding. She said something like 'the uneven cut makes your eye move around the outfit instead of just sitting still,' and honestly that stuck with me. I always thought asymmetrical stuff looked like a mistake, like the designer ran out of fabric or something. But seeing how she styled it with a simple plain top and some chunky boots made me realize the imbalance can actually add movement. I grabbed a cheap asymmetrical hem dress for 8 bucks just to test it out and ended up wearing it to a gallery opening last week. It got more compliments than anything else I own. Maybe the trick is keeping everything else really simple so the hem does the talking. Has anyone else had a trend they hated until they saw it in real life?

That plain top and chunky boots combo really lets the hem do all the talking, makes total sense now.

Did you tuck the boots under or let them sit over the hem?
