TIL thrush can look totally gone but still be hiding in the heel

I had a horse three weeks ago that looked sound after treatment, no smell, clean frogs. I was ready to say it was all clear. Then I pulled the shoe and found a dark pocket right in the heel buttress that I missed completely. The outside looked fine but the inside was still soft and black. That horse went lame again in 4 days because I didn't dig deep enough the first time. Now I always probe the heel area with a pick before I call it done. Has anyone else had a case where thrush came back even after the frog looked clean?
