Old farrier told me my shoes looked 'lazy' - fixed it overnight

Last month a 60 year old farrier watched me work a horse at a clinic in Springfield. He said my clips were too small and my heels didn't have enough support. Said I was taking shortcuts because I was rushing. Went home and re-did a whole set of fronts with bigger clips and more heel coverage. Horse moved way better on the lunge line. Has anyone else had a crusty old timer call them out on something small that made a big difference?

Shoes looking lazy? Maybe they were just tired from carrying all that hoof around. But seriously, that old timer probably called it right. I've had a crusty saddler tell me my billets were too far forward once and I wanted to argue but he was spot on the horse moved totally different after I redid them. A good set of eyes from someone who's been doing this since before you were born is worth its weight in gold even if they sound like a grumpy old goat.

Can you really trust a saddler who hasn't touched a hoof in thirty years?
