Just found out how much a horse's hoof grows in a year, and it's way more than I thought

I was reading an old farrier textbook from the 80s I picked up at a yard sale, and it mentioned that the average horse's hoof wall grows about a quarter inch per month. I did the math, and that's about three inches a year. For some reason, I always pictured it being slower, maybe an inch or so. It really puts the whole trimming schedule into perspective, especially for the pasture pets I see every eight weeks. You're basically keeping up with a solid half inch of growth each visit. It makes me think about how much the hoof capsule actually moves and changes shape over time. I guess I never stopped to really calculate it out before. Has anyone else come across a basic fact like that that made you look at your routine a bit differently?

That old textbook might be a bit off, idk. My farrier always said it's closer to an eighth of an inch a month, which is only an inch and a half a year. It really depends on the horse's diet and the time of year too. Maybe the quarter inch figure is a high-end example.
