Just found out how many nails a farrier goes through in a year

I was reading an old trade journal from the 90s and it said a full time farrier can drive over 15,000 nails in a single year. That's a crazy amount of steel. Makes you think about the wear on your hammer arm. Anyone else ever track their nail count for a month?

Honestly, that number sounds a bit overblown. A quick math check shows that's only about 40 nails a day, which isn't that wild for a full time job. I doubt most farriers are actually counting.

Forty nails a day adds up fast over a career. That's a lot of wear and tear on your body, swinging a hammer. It's not just about counting, it's the repeated motion. Seems pretty believable when you consider doing it for decades.
