Had to redo a shoe job because I skipped hoof prep

I was rushing on a Friday afternoon in Lexington and just cleaned the foot a little before nailing on a keg shoe. Horse was dead lame by Saturday, and I had to pull the whole thing off and start over. How many of you do a full prep on every hoof even when the owner is in a hurry?

Jump right into it every time no matter who's watching. Learned that lesson the hard way too, a rushed prep always costs you more time and money in the long run.

That line about "rushed prep costing more time and money" really hit home. I had a buddy who thought he could just slap some paint on his old fence without cleaning it first, figured it would save him an afternoon. He ended up having to strip all that flaking paint off two weeks later and do the whole thing over again, plus buy another can of paint. The job ended up taking three times as long and costing him double what it would have if he'd just taken the time to do it right the first time.
