Forgot my hoof knife in the truck during a call at the Miller ranch
Was trimming a big draft horse out near Bend, Oregon. The old hoof knife I keep in my apron snapped at the handle halfway through. Had to improvise with a sharp rasp to finish the bevel. Anyone else ever get stuck without a key tool and have to make it work?

My buddy was out on a solo job and his nippers gave out completely. He ended up using a pair of heavy duty wire cutters from his truck bed to trim the excess wall. Said it was a hack job, but it got the horse comfortable enough to walk back to the trailer. He always carries a backup pair in his rig now.

Glad your buddy got the horse sorted, @davis.emma. Using wire cutters in a pinch is clever, but they can crush and pinch the wall instead of making a clean cut. That pinch can cause a pressure point later, even if the horse walks off okay. A proper backup pair of nippers is a smart move for next time.
