Why does nobody talk about the hidden filter in your shop vac?

I spent 45 minutes trying to figure out why mine had zero suction, turns out there's a secondary foam sleeve inside the main filter that gets clogged solid. Anyone know a good way to clean that thing without ruining it?

That "secondary foam sleeve" is such a perfect example of hidden maintenance... it feels like everything is designed with these secret failure points now. You only find them after the thing totally stops working. Makes you wonder what else around the house has a similar trick.

Tell me about it. My house is basically a museum of things waiting to surprise me with a secret repair. I'm just waiting for the couch to demand a new hidden spring.
