Wasted $40 on a fancy vacuum filter that did nothing

I bought a HEPA replacement filter for my upright vacuum thinking it would help with my allergies, but it cost me $40 and didn't change a thing. Turned out my old filter was fine, I just needed to wash the pre-filter foam piece that I'd been ignoring for like a year. Anyone else shell out cash for a fix that wasn't even the problem?

Ngl half the time it's some little foam piece or a clogged hose that's the real issue. Those filter companies are laughing all the way to the bank.

And the funny thing is, people will spend $60 on a fancy filter set but then never think to check the hose for a kink under the sink. Like, you can literally see water not flowing, but sure, blame the sediment filter for everything. It's wild how many "problems" just turn into a 10 cent part or a quick clean.
