TIL my vacuum filter was a 5-minute fix I ignored for a year

I finally cleaned the foam pre-filter on my shop vac last week after noticing the suction was garbage. The difference was night and day, like I bought a new machine for zero dollars. Has anyone else had a tool that just needed a basic cleaning to work like new?

Used to think that if a tool was running and doing the job, it was fine. Didn't believe a dirty filter could make that big a difference. Then my shop vac started sounding like it was working twice as hard for half the suck. I finally pulled the foam filter out, rinsed it, let it dry, and put it back in. The thing pulled air so hard it nearly lifted the lid off the drum. Changed my mind completely, now I clean all my tool filters every few months without waiting.

Spent six months thinking my blender was dying. Just needed the blade assembly cleaned. Felt like a genius and an idiot at the same time.
