TIL a rubber band on my drill bit stops it from slipping
I was talking to my neighbor Sal in his garage last Tuesday, he's 70 and fixes everything with junk he finds. He saw me struggling with a stripped screw head and just wrapped a thick rubber band over the tip of my Philips bit, pushed it in, and it grabbed perfect. I tried it myself on three screws in an old lamp base and it worked every time, no more cussing or chewing up the heads. Has anyone else got a weird trick like that for stubborn screws that actually holds up?

Man, that rubber band trick is a lifesaver. My own fix for stripped screws used to be just yelling at them and hoping they'd cooperate out of fear, which never worked. One time I tried superglue on a screwdriver tip and ended up with the bit permanently stuck in the screw and a very ugly lamp. Then I tried the rubber band thing after seeing it online, and felt stupid for all those years of chewing up heads like a beaver with a grudge. Funny how the simplest junk in your drawer beats every fancy tool I've bought.
