Spent $15 on a can of WD-40 specialist silicone spray for my squeaky garage door last month

It fixed the noise in 10 seconds flat but now the door closes so slow I have to stand there and wait for it every time, has anyone else had this problem with silicone lubricants?

Oh man that's odd! I had a buddy at work who tried that same silicone spray on his overhead garage door and it did pretty much the same thing. He said it went from banging around like crazy to moving at like the speed of a snail crossing a sidewalk. He ended up wiping a bunch of it off with a rag and then spraying a little regular lithium grease on the springs instead, and it got back to normal speed after that. Maybe it's just that silicone makes the tracks too slick or something weird like that.

Yeah I ran into this exact thing on my own door a couple years back... the silicone makes everything so slick that the friction drops way too low and the opener loses its grip basically. What worked for me was taking a rag with some rubbing alcohol and wiping down the tracks and the wheels to get that silicone film off, then switching to a white lithium grease spray just on the hinge points and spring coils. The grease gives just enough drag to let the door close at normal speed without that snail pace nonsense. Also check if your opener's limit settings got thrown off from the reduced resistance, might need to bump the close force up just a hair.
