Spent $12 on a magnetic wristband for screws and dropped it into the engine bay on my first try
The magnets are strong enough to hold screws but not strong enough to keep the band on my wrist, so now I'm fishing both out of the wheel well on a 98 Civic in Phoenix heat - anyone else find these things useless or did I just buy the wrong one?

Those things work fine if you stick it on a metal part of your shirt instead.

yeah I used to think you had to stick those magnetic things right on your skin for them to work, I was totally wrong about that. my friend showed me how he just clips it onto the metal button on his jeans and it still holds his phone fine all day. I honestly felt kind of dumb for not trying that earlier because it saves your skin from getting all irritated and sweaty. I even tested it with a weaker magnet I had lying around and it still worked okay, not as strong but enough for most uses. the whole idea of needing direct skin contact is just a myth I think, a lot of people overthink this stuff.
